📘 Step 1: Fundamentals of Instruction + Skills Evaluation
Your First Step to Becoming a Red Cross Certified Instructor
Before you can teach First Aid, CPR, EMR, or First Responder courses with the Canadian Red Cross, you must complete the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) and a hands-on skills evaluation.
This product is for candidates who are working toward becoming a:

First Aid & CPR Instructor (FAI)

Emergency Medical Responder Instructor (EMRI)
-
First Responder Instructor (FRI)
-
Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI)
🧭 What’s Included in This Package:
🖥️ 1. Online Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI)
~8 hours (self-paced)
Learn the core skills required to be a great instructor:

Adult learning principles
-
Teaching strategies
-
Engaging diverse learners
-
Red Cross instructional philosophy
You’ll receive a link to complete this directly through the Canadian Red Cross Learning Portal.
🧪 2. Skills Evaluation (In Person)
~2 hours
We’ll schedule you for a one-on-one or small-group skills evaluation, where you’ll demonstrate competency in:

CPR & AED
-
Bandaging
-
Choking
-
Scenario-based care (First Aid or EMR level, depending on your stream)
This confirms you're ready to move on to the in-person instructor course.

Once you’ve completed FOI and passed your skills evaluation, you’re eligible to register for:
✅ First Aid & CPR Instructor Course (2-day in-class)
✅ Professional Responder Instructor Course (2-day in-class: EMR, FR, or BLS)
