Empower the Next Generation – Become a Youth Leader with Rural Rescue
Are you passionate about working with youth and teaching essential safety skills? The Red Cross Youth Leader program prepares individuals to deliver the Stay Safe! and Babysitting courses, equipping young learners with confidence and practical first aid knowledge.
Through the Youth Leader Development Program, candidates gain the skills needed to create engaging, learner-centered environments while ensuring youth receive high-quality instruction in safety and emergency preparedness.
Who Can Become a Youth Leader?
To qualify, you must meet the following prerequisites:
✅ Minimum Age: 18+ (or 16-17 with adult support)
✅ Current Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification (or equivalent)
What’s Involved in the Training?
📌 Step 1: Complete the online component – Fundamentals of Instruction for Youth Leaders
📌 Step 2: Successfully complete a Teaching Experience with a certified Canadian Red Cross Teaching Experience Supervisor*
* Candidates who qualify for the Youth Leader Transfer pathway are exempt from the Teaching Experience requirement.
Who Qualifies for the Youth Leader Transfer Pathway?
Candidates may be eligible for an accelerated certification if they hold one of the following:
✅ Educator (elementary or secondary level)
✅ Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
✅ HIGH FIVE Trainer
✅ National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2+ (any sport)
✅ Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance (CALA) Instructor
✅ Water Art Instructor or Canadian Fitness Professionals (CANFit PRO) Certification
