Course Description
This intensive First Responder to Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Upgrade Course is designed for individuals who currently hold a valid Canadian Red Cross First Responder certification and are ready to advance to the EMR level.
Participants will gain the advanced knowledge and hands-on skills required to provide care in pre-hospital and high-acuity environments. Training focuses on sustaining life, reducing pain, minimizing the effects of sudden illness or injury, and supporting emergency medical services as part of a coordinated response team.
This course is ideal for firefighters, police, and emergency service personnel working in professional or volunteer emergency response roles.
Course Content Includes

Advanced patient assessment and management
-
Airway and breathing management (BVMs, OPAs)

Circulatory emergencies and shock management
-
Trauma care, including spinal motion restriction
-
Pharmacology and assisting with medications
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED training
Accreditation & Standards
This course:

Includes Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED training
-
Meets the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) for Emergency Medical Responders as defined by the Paramedic Association of Canada
Prerequisites

Current, non-expired Canadian Red Cross First Responder certification
Pre-Course Work (Mandatory)
Participants will be provided with required pre-course work prior to the course start date.

Pre-work must be completed and submitted no later than 2 days prior to the course start date

Completion of pre-work is required to participate in the in-class portion of the course

The pre-work is designed to build confidence and prepare participants for advanced, hands-on learning

Course Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course, participants must:

Attend and actively participate in 100% of the course

Successfully demonstrate all required practical skills

Achieve a minimum 75% on the written, closed-book knowledge evaluation
-
Successfully complete two evaluated scenarios
Refund & Cancellation Policy
Due to instructor scheduling, equipment preparation, and course planning, the following cancellation policy applies:
-
No refunds for cancellations made within 5 days of the course start date
-
50% refund for cancellations made 6–10 days prior to the course start date
-
For cancellations made more than 10 days prior, a minimum administrative fee will apply
All refunds are processed minus applicable administrative fees.
